Contaminated air passes through the fabric, particles collect on the bag surface, and clean air exits through the outlet.

  2. The gas passes through the filter fabric. Particles remain on the outside surface while cleaned gas moves through the material and into the clean-air plenum.

Filter Media: The Material Decides Performance

Acrylic

Aramid

PPS

P84 polyimide

Tri-lobal fiber cross-section creates a porous surface ideal for trapping fine particulate. Handles up to 260°C.

PTFE

The premium option. Nearly universal chemical resistance and continuous operation to 260°C.

Glass fiber

High-temperature capability to 260°C at moderate cost. PTFE coating improves flex resistance and acid protection.

Basalt fiber

Key Factors That Affect Baghouse Performance

This is the ratio of gas flow (m³/min) to filter area (m²). Push the ratio too high and differential pressure rises, cleaning frequency increases, and bag life drops. The correct ratio depends on dust fineness, loading, and cleaning method.

Gas Temperature

Every fiber has a maximum continuous service temperature. Exceed it, and the fabric degrades quickly. Operate below the dew point and condensation causes blinding where moisture reacts with captured dust to form a hard layer. Keep gas 15–25°C above the acid dew point where sulfuric acid can form.

Chemical Compatibility

Sulfur oxides, hydrogen chloride, fluorides, and other aggressive gases attack filter media. The media selection must match the complete flue gas chemistry, not just the headline temperature.

Cleaning Settings

Too-frequent pulsing wears out bags prematurely. Too-infrequent cleaning lets the dust cake compact and pressure drop climb until the system chokes. Well-tuned controls balance bag life against throughput.

How to Choose the Right Baghouse Filter

Selection comes down to matching filter media to process conditions. Work through these steps before committing to a bag purchase:

  1. Characterize the gas stream. Measure flow rate, normal and upset temperatures, moisture content, and chemical composition.
  2. Analyze the dust. Document particle size distribution, abrasiveness, stickiness, and whether it carries electrostatic or explosion risk.
